My name is John Bergdall. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Arkansas. I joined the University in 2022.
Teaching, learning, and research are fundamentally human experiences. To succeed at any requires full investment in the others. Approaches should be centered in student and scholar communities.
My research interests are algebra and number theory. My projects focus on phenomena on p-adic families of automorphic forms and Galois representations. My research is currently supported by a gift from the Simons Foundation (award no. 713782) and a grant from the National Science Foundation (award no. DMS-2302284).

I began as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas in Fall 2022. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor at Bryn Mawr College. I held postdoctoral research appointments at Michigan State University and Boston University. My research at Boston University was partially supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. I have also been a visiting researcher at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques and the Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik.
My Ph.D. was completed at Brandeis University, where my advisor was Joël Bellaïche. I miss him dearly.
My alma mater is the University of Minnesota.
